Ok...after being a long term skydemon user, I've finally gone and bought an iPad mini just so I can run skydemon on my knee and do my flight planning anywhere!

Things are a little different between ipad and pc but two things are really bugging me.

First one is despite putting in my home airfield in the planning options, why does it keep showing 'truleigh hill' airfield as my route starting point when I do 'route' and 'create a route' from the top menu?

Second, on TAF and METAR tabs is there any way of turning off the decoded view and have it default to the much quicker to read and understand (for me) Raw view? I just can't get on with decoded view..

I'm loving the iPad version!

I think SkyDemon remembers the last airfield you create a route from and suggests that as a default when you go to Create Route, BUT this is overridden, where available, by a quick location lookup which will put the nearest airfield to your current position in there as a default.

As Tim highlighted above. Navigational softwares commonly and logically assume that the aeroplane would have to be FLOWN from its LAST known position. Alternatively, it can default to the current GPS position, which MAY or MAY NOT be the home airfield, or where the aeroplane actually is.

I personally prefer it as is with this logical sequencing rather than default to a certain given airfield.

Tim,

you have solved why it is picking up truleigh farm! Where I am sitting right now, that airfield is the closest to my current position, so there is some intelligence as to why I have been 'blighted' by that airfield :o)

As you know having used your products for some years, I have extolled the virtues of the product to all the pilots I met or have instructed.

The iPad mini with skydemon is a perfect fit, 10/10!

Ridders,

Slightly off thread - sorry, but you mention 10/10 for iPad Mini. I'm looking to get one for the cockpit, can this be yoke mounted, and is any of the practical functionality lost due to the reduced screen size - I understand that all the current iPad functions will be there, but just wondering if the reduced screen makes them difficult to use?

Hugh

There should be no reduced functionality on iPAD mini. I use both ipad & mini. Aside from the screen size there is no difference. There are yoke mounts for both (see Sporty's pilot supplies and others). Personally I simply use them as knee pads, with good uninterrupted GPS reception and not to obstruct the instrument view (Commander). Both deserve full marks when used with SD.

I use the same RAM mount (universal gps holder) as I did with my 5 inch chinese device, Just removed the side claws, and stuck a bit of velcro onto the mini. It holds it perfectly.

But, my birthday is looming and I'll be getting this which is due for release in a few weeks.

I've already got the yoke mount arm (part number RAM-B-121B)and extention arm (part number RAP-B-201) that will be also be needed to attach it to the yoke

Hope this helps
